Our Client who is a leading events company based in Dubai has an urgent requirement for a Festival Designer.

Job Overview: 

The Festival Designer / Scenographer is responsible for creating the visual concept of a production, including the venues, visitor experience, and sometimes even the lighting and AV. They will work closely with creative team members to bring the vision of the festival to life. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Concept Development: 

  • Collaborate with directors, producers, and other designers to develop the visual concept for the production. 
  • Conduct research and gather inspiration to inform the design process. 

Design and Planning: 

  • Create detailed sketches, models, and digital renderings of the set design of artworks and visitor journeys. 
  • Develop and present design proposals to the production team for approval. 
  • Create technical drawings and plans for construction and assembly. 

Coordination and Communication: 

  • Work closely with the technical director, construction crew, and curatorial team to ensure the set is built according to the design. 
  • Communicate design ideas and requirements clearly to all team members. 
  • Attend production meetings and rehearsals to make adjustments as needed. 

Budget and Time Management: 

  • Manage the design budget and ensure all materials and labor costs stay within the allocated budget. 
  • Create and maintain a timeline for the design process, ensuring that all elements are completed on time. 

Execution and Installation: 

  • Oversee the construction and installation of the set. 
  • Ensure all design elements are safe and functional for performers and crew. 
  • Make final adjustments and touch-ups as necessary. 

Collaboration: 

  • Work with the lighting designer to ensure the set is properly lit. 
  • Coordinate with the curatorial team to ensure visual consistency across all elements of the production. 
  • Collaborate with sound designers to ensure any set elements that interact with sound are properly designed. 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Education: A degree in theater design, art, architecture, or a related field is often required. 
  • Experience: Prior experience in set design, festival production, or a related field is highly beneficial. 
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite) and knowledge of construction techniques and materials. 
  • Creative Skills: Strong artistic ability and creativity, with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics. 
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse team.
